One of the stereotypes that the authors from the reading and video discuss is that young people are rebellious. Another stereotype from both authors about young people is that the black culture always has the negative representation. In the Video, it focused about how black girls are treated in schools compared to other girls or different backgrounds. One of the girls was asked if she was sexually active and she realized that her white friends had not brought up the topic with her which implies that the white girls of that school are not asked those kinds of questions. A final stereotype is that the youth always had problems. People would ask "what's wrong with the youth" as if children had the mentality of an adult. Children were expected to reach an adults standard and were criticized if they did.
I experienced discrimination during my senior year of high school. It was age discrimination. It was my senior year of High school and my peers and I were finishing our senior papers. This paper along with a 15 power point slide, a 10 minute presentation, and a physical project determined if we were going to graduate from high school. During the near final stages of the project, the teacher calls me to her desk to talk to me about my paper. A certain section of the paper caught her attention because of the vocabulary I was using. She said I had to "Dumb it down a bit" and not be so formal with my sentences which to this day makes zero sense to me. She then asks me where I found the information. I told her and she came to the conclusion that the words I was using as a high school senior were to advanced for me and she accused me of plagiarism. I will admit I used certain words in a similar manner because I honestly did not know how else to rephrase this particular section, but to say that I completely plagiarized my entire paper was well over exaggerated. To avoid conflict, I did what she said and found something else to replace my sentence. To this day, I find it extremely humorous that my teacher thought certain words were to advanced for me because I know my own capabilities and limits.
