Week 4 Blog post 3
One example of an adult who was trying to understand Marcus's mindset was his own mother. She loves him and supports him regardless of what other people from the school say about her son. She isn't in full denial that her son may need help but does become suspicious when the school begins to suggest many ways to improve Marcus's behavior.
Another example is the teacher. She demonstrates understanding Marcus with her actions and patience. Naturally, she will limit certain behaviors from him but usually she will allow him to take a break from the classroom and will do her best to not allow Marcus's actions to affect her teaching skills. In other words, she will allow Marcus to sometimes voice his perspective.
The third example is Marcus's counselor. I believe she understands Marcus the most because she connects with him in a way that his own teacher is not able to. Marcus's counselor also assess Marcus deeply and does not consider him a troubled child. She views him as a boy with a different way of thinking. Most classroom settings follow the traditional rules of the teachers being in charge, but the counselor understands that Marcus does not agree with the authority rule. She understands that Marcus is simply a child who feels that his voice matters just as much as the adults in the classroom.
