Week 6 Blog post 5
Quote 1. "Positive Youth Development is a child-centered and asset-based approach to youth development (Pittman, et al., 2003), with adults acting as facilitators and coaches".
This resonates with me because I believe that children should always been surrounded by positive people who will support them. Some children unfortunately are around people who utilize negative reinforcement as discipline and depending on how severe the discipline is, it could be traumatic for the child as well.
Quote 2. "Civic Youth Development supports youth as they learn to become democratic citizens, and encourages them to explore social issues that they find meaningful"
I find this quote to be important because it supports teaching the youth about social issues. By doing this, we can influence and educate a generation and those children can spread their knowledge when they become adults. This would continue a cycle of social issues being addressed which can help the future understand more about those problem we experience today.
Quote 3. "We offer these frameworks to make room for students to find their own place — and sometimes change their place — in the field of youth work".
This quote resonates with me because I feel that one of the most important things in life is a persons individuality. Having the choice to become whatever your mind and heart is set on is extremely important to me especially for the youth because a child who is doing what they love to do can be influenced in positive ways. A child who is forced into something they are not interested in will most likely make them become miserable people as they become older.
When reading the article I felt this comfort and support to be in this field. Quote number 3 is one that resonated with me as well. Students should be discovering themselves discover who they are and we are just around for support.
ReplyDeleteHi Angel I really enjoyed reading the quotes you chose for your blog I really enjoyed the first quote that you chose and I couldn't agree more with you sometimes we get caught up and forget to give children the space to use their voice and be heard. And we need to remember that this is something very important because I know how I felt when I was younger and adults brushed me off it gives them a sense of importance
